Outlander Location Tours
With the sixth season of Outlander currently shooting, there is no better time to visit Outlander filming locations, with me as your personal Scottish tour guide, and indulge in some time travel of your own, hot in the footsteps of Claire and Jamie. With five series already aired, there is a plethora of film location sites to visit on day trips from Edinburgh, or even as part of a multi-day road trip. With so much of the outdoor filming shot in the Central Belt, it is easy to cover a lot of ground in a one day or a two day Outlander location tour.
To simplify choosing a tour I have split up the Outlander film locations into geographical areas:
Glasgow & Ayrshire
George Square (where Frank proposes to Claire), Pollok Country Park (the grounds of Castle Leoch & scene of the staged hold up in France), Troon (where Claire, Jamie & Murtagh board ship to France), Glasgow Cathedral (L'Hopital Des Anges, Paris), Dean Castle (stand in for Beaufort Castle where Jamie tries to enlist Lord Lovat to the Jacobite uprising), Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Dowanhill Street, Glasgow University, Kelvingrove Park, Dunure
Stirling & Falkirk
Doune Castle (Castle Leoch), Linlithgow Palace (Wentworth Prison), Blackness Castle ('Fort William'), Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway (WW2 London railway station), Loch Katrine (location of Briana & Rodger's drive in S2), Callendar House (used for interior shots of Bellhurst Manor, home of the Duke of Sandringham) , Deanston Distillery (represents the wine warehouses in the port of Le Havre), Muiravonside Country Park (setting for the Battle of Prestonpans & also as a British Army camp), Wardpark Studios (various indoor sets)
Edinburgh & Lothian
Preston Mill (various backdrop scenes), Hopetoun House (Duke of Sandringham's home), Midhope Castle (Lallybroch), Glencorse Old Kirk (Claire & Jamie's wedding venue), Gosford House (Palace of Versailles stables), Craigmillar Castle, Bakehouse Close, Tweedale Court, The World's End pub
Fife
Balgonie Castle, Aberdour Castle (monastery in Series 1), Falkland (stand in for 1940s (S1) &1960s (S2) Inverness), Culross (Cranesmuir), The Reaper Tall Ship (one of the ships being loaded in Le Havre), Dysart Harbour (the port of Le Havre)
Highland
Glencoe (Series On opening credits), The road to Kinlochrannoch (Craigh na Dun), Highland Folk Museum (various village scenes), Tibbermore Church (setting for the witch trial in Series 2), Drummond Castle Gardens (doubling as the gardens of the Palace of Versailles)
South of Scotland
Drumlanrig Castle (interior filming location for Bellhurst Manor)
It is possible to visit Outlander film locations from different areas in a day tour, where logistically possible - please ask me for advice on this. On a multi-day tour I can draw up bespoke itineraries to include all of the sites that interest you most, from a two day tour to a two week tour!
