About Me
About Me
Born in Airthrey Castle near the Abbey Craig, the site of the National Wallace Monument, just outside Stirling, and brought up in the small cathedral city of Dunblane, the history of Scotland was ingrained in me from an early age. I now live in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city and have also spent many years living and working in the West Highlands as well as a number of years living in England. After studying business studies at Glasgow College of Commerce, I worked in my family's wholesale seafood business, where my job remit involved travelling around Scotland, sourcing and buying shellfish and supplying some of the best hotels and restaurants in the country. It was during this time that I had the idea for Guided Tours of Scotland. This varied work background and my passion for hiking has helped me to build a unique and extensive knowledge of the geography of Scotland and best places to eat, stay & visit. In addition, I have been an avid reader of books on Scottish history and current affairs. It is with the benefit of this combined knowledge that I can create unique, fun and interesting itineraries for my clients to enjoy.
During my business travels throughout Scotland in the 90's and 00's I noticed the growth of scheduled coach trips providing fixed itinerary day trip and multi-day tours from Glasgow & Edinburgh but very few specialised private tour providers, outwith chauffeur hire companies, offering customized, bespoke tours of Scotland. In the past decade or so I have also detected that there has been a trend among the more discerning visitors to Scotland to travel independently, with a desire to explore at their own pace and in their own time but do not want the hassle or restrictions of driving themselves, people who require choice, flexibility and good value when choosing a tailor made tour. I felt that there was a gap in the market for this type of service and so, in 2009 Guided Tours of Scotland was born.

Experience, Insurance and Licencing
With my unique background & knowledge of Scotland's geography, history, people, politics and places, built up over my lifetime, plus 13+ years experience as a tour guide, I am well placed to offer you an individual tour that is fun, informative and good value.
I am a very careful and considerate driver and the comfort and safety of my passengers is paramount to me. I have held a clean driving licence for over 30 years and I have clocked up over one million miles (1.5 million kilometres) driving on the roads of Scotland and Europe. I hold a Disclosure Scotland certificate (police check). My vehicle is comprehensively insured for executive hire and touring, plus public liability cover. I operate my business in full compliance with the licensing regulations of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, Section 22 (c).

Ford Tourneo Custom Titanium
My very comfortable nine seat minivan is the Ford Tourneo Custom Titanium, long wheel base version for extra luggage space, which I chose ahead of the Mercedes Viano and Volkswagen Caravelle as I believe it is simply the best nine seater touring vehicle in its class, being slightly larger and more comfortable than the Merc and VW. The Tourneo can carry eight passengers, ideal for families, small groups or couples. The main features of this minibus are; privacy glass windows with sun blinds, front and rear compartment A/C control, 8 USB charging points throughout the vehicle, six reclining, forward facing seats in the rear compartment (seating can also be arranged facing each other in a conference configuration if preferred), with excellent leg room and three seats in the front cab, making it the ideal touring vehicle. Although the Tourneo can accommodate eight cases plus hand luggage, for those travelling with baggage in excess of this or with golf clubs, bikes, wheelchairs etc, I have a box trailer which can be hitched to the van on request. I also provide an electric cool box with complimentary chilled bottles of mineral water, in which you can also keep your own drinks cool. In addition, I provide complimentary Highland toffees, replenished as required!
I look forward to welcoming you on one of my unique and personalised tours of Scotland and showing you around our beautiful coastline, mystical isles, mountains, lochs and historic towns and cities sometime in the not too distant future!
